Teen Vogue Editor Elaine Welteroth's Tiny Studio Makeover by Nicole Gibbons

When my friend Elaine downsized from a large apartment in Harlem with roommates to a small studio in the West Village she couldn’t figure out how to make her apartment look cohesive and stylish so I agreed to come by to give her a few pointers. Living in New York I’ve seen a lot of small apartments but when I first saw Elaine’s place I was stunned! It was teeny tiny! The main living space is a little under 90 square feet and had a very tricky layout! And it was like the scene of a decorating crime. There was …

A Stylish Rental Bathroom Upgrade for Under $500!

My friend Elaine is one stylish woman. She also happens to be the Beauty & Health Director at Teen Vogue and not long ago she moved to a new apartment in the super trendy West Village. Elaine says that as long as she’s been in New York she has always wanted to have her very own Carrie Bradshaw moment living in the West Village but in order to live in one of Manhattan’s most coveted neighborhoods, she had to make a huge sacrifice on space. Her entire apartment is just under 300 square feet! Elaine was stumped on how to …

A before and after Brooklyn Brownstone Kitchen Renovation - sohautestyle.com

I love a good before and after and in the case of my #ProjectParkSlope clients, the change after their kitchen reno was quite dramatic as you can see in these side by side photos. Here’s a quick look at the transformation…

This before shot is from the home’s real estate listing. The house was originally built in 1876 and although this pictures is actually fairly recent, the kitchen looked like it was still stuck in 1876! It was originally designed as an open space with a much smaller cooking/refrigeration/sink area to the left and this dining area that you see …

Favorite Scented Candles_6 copy

I’m a huge home fragrance junkie. I have candles all around my apartment and there’s something about having my place constantly filled with delicious scents that’s totally comforting. I thought I’d share a few of my favorite candles that I’m burning at the moment including one scent that I can’t live without!

I’ll admit, I was first drawn to this candle because of the pretty, scalloped glass container but the fragrance is what totally won me over. I love scents that are warm and exotic and this Baltic Amber candle from Voluspa features notes of amber, sandalwood and vanilla orchid. …

Brooklyn Master Bedroom Before & After

I always feel that bedrooms should be calming and serene and in the case of my #projectparkslope clients who have two small kids, I wanted to create a master bedroom that felt like a retreat from toddler central. The space has a beautiful white marble fireplace which inspired a very soft color scheme. The clients lived in an all gray apartment previously and were nervous about the idea of incorporating color into their home. Since they loved grays, I came up with this soothing blue monochromatic palette grounded in Benjamin Moore’s Cool Breeze which, depending on the light, sometimes can …
