In last Thursday’s Home section of the New York Times, the “Shopping With” column featured Kelly Wearstler shopping at Potterton books in Los Angeles. Potterton is a unique bookstore that specializes in both new and out-of-print design books. (Potterton also has outposts in London and New York). In the article Wearstler discusses how she gets much of her inspiration from old design books and that she collects them just as she would art. You can read the full story here.

Lately I’ve been drawn to ethnic printed fabrics so I thought I’d devote a post to a purveyor of ethnic textiles that I really love. Les Indiennes produces the most beautiful, hand printed Indian textiles and their fabrics have a casual, bohemian elegance that I find very appealing. If you aren’t familiar with the company, after reading this post you’ll probably start noticing the brand often in the media as they receive a fair amount of press and are credited regularly in magazines such as Domino, Elle Decor and House Beautiful.

There’s something so chic and refined about a writing desk in the bedroom. Here’s a collection of some of my favorite bedrooms, complete with well dressed desks! Above is one of my favorites– the guest bedroom of designer Krista Ewart’s Santa Monica cottage which features a stylish ebony Italianate desk by the bedside. I love all of the ultra feminine details like the porcelain lady head, ceramic lamp with water lilies and the vintage fashion illustration.

Just over a month old, Pagoda Yellow is blog/shop run by an interior designer who restores vintage finds as a hobby. The site’s about me section tells the story of how Pagoda Yellow came to be:

“Trained as an Interior Designer, in searching for furniture and
accessories for myself, I realized there was a multitude of pieces just
waiting to be given a second life. Thus came the “lightbulb” moment – a

I often become fixated on the most random things. This week its elephants. I think it’s because I went to HomeGoods last weekend with the BF (big mistake) and saw these great chinoiserie style lamps that had lying elephants as the base. They were so beautiful and so inexpensive. I wanted to buy them. He said they were ugly. I tried to argue. He won. (Note to self: Never take BF to HomeGoods.) Anyway- I’ve been looking around for other elephant pieces to cure my fix so here’s a little roundup of some of the cool things I’ve found…

As many of you know I’ve been re-decorating my bedroom and the next major purchase on my list is a great headboard. I want an upholstered headboard with some curvature and I love tufting. One realization that I’ve come to in all of my searching is that upholstered headboards are expensive! To cover all bases, I’ve been looking at options that cover many different price points. Here are a few upholstered headboards that I’ve been eying recently:

The Woodhouse bed from Jonathan Adler. Very mid-century modern. Love the shape, the contrasting piping and love the tufts!
