There’s something quite charming about the presence of pot racks in a kitchen. I think many kitchens that I see photographed often appear sterile and you’d never know the kitchen was ever actually utilized. But whenever I see a kitchen with a pot rack, it suggests to me that this is a real kitchen…where people cook, eat, gather, etc. It somehow makes the kitchen space instantly feel lived in. Pot racks are a beautiful way to showcase your cookware, especially if you have a serious collection. And although they’re a lovely decorative …

So Haute Melrose Trading Post-12

I think LA has some of the best flea markets around. Some of the better markets in the LA area are in farther away cities like Pasadena or Long Beach and only open on select weekends so I often miss them when I come to town. The Melrose Trading Post however, best known for its art, antiques and collectibles, is open every single Sunday rain or shine. It’s also located right in the heart of Hollywood so it’s easily accessible and even on holidays it’s still open. I always manage to check it out when I’m in town and it’s …

LA based interior designer Katie Leede has just launched her new line of ethnic inspired upholstery fabrics and they are gorgeous! There are 14 prints in various colorways, all printed on Belgian linen plus a single solid woven, also available in multiple colorways, that was produced in Guatemala. The prints were all inspired by Egyptian wall paintings and statuary. The line has a beautiful, organic feeling and a classic sensibility that can translate into any style of decor. The line is currently available through Holly Hunt in Los Angeles, Holland & Sherry in New York or directly through Katie Leede…

When I was pouring through Kishani Perera’s portfolio I was struck by one of her projects which she titled “Miracle Mile Revival.” I especially loved the photo above with that beautiful gray velvet sofa topped with bright pink pillows and a suzani throw to accent. When I asked her about this home I was surprised to hear that this was a project done for a client on a tight budget and that it was furnished using a number of items from mass market stores such as Crate & Barrel mixed in with flea market finds and vintage pieces …

A friend of mine sent me a link on Facebook telling me to check out Umbrella Prints, an Australian line of colorful fabrics with fun prints that are hand screened onto 100% organic hemp/cotton. Umbrella Prints fabrics are available on Etsy in 70cm X 70cm pieces (perfect for pillows!), but you can also purchase some of their prints by the meter via their Australian site. I think their fabrics would be super cute in a kid’s room, although they really could be applied to any space. I love the Fan Flower print below which to me has a …

So I just bought this jute rug from Nate Berkus’ line for HSN. I absolutely love it. I don’t think the photo from the HSN site does it justice. It’s actually a bit darker and golden. The repeating rectangular pattern of the weave is beautiful and adds so much additional texture to the rug. It’s super soft underfoot and looks far more expensive than the $99 I paid for my 5’x8″ version. I think it’s an exceptional value and is perfect for anyone who loves the look of natural fiber rugs but doesn’t want to spend a lot of money. …
