The latest issue of Architectural Digest showcases conceptual artist Cindy Sherman’s Hamptons home and I’m totally loving its vibrant and eclectic interiors. I think that I sometimes overuse the word eclectic but that is truly one of the most accurate words to describe this country retreat which features a mix of antiques with provenance, contemporary pieces and flea market finds as well as a broad range of ethnic textiles from diverse origins such as India, Pakistan, Africa, France and Italy. And it’s no surprise that her home also features an abundant art collection consisting of thrift finds placed alongside important works by some of her very well known friends and peers in the art world. When Sherman purchased the 19th century East Hampton farmhouse it was shabby and dilapidated but with the help of designer Billy Cotton (who I recently worked with to design a custom furniture piece for a client) the place was transformed into a colorful and layered bohemian sanctuary with a perfectly “undecorated” feel.
