Simple Decor Updates to Cure the Winter Blues!

The weather has been so gloomy and frigid these past couple of weeks and the lack of light is giving me a serious case of the winter blues! I’ve been dying to do something to brighten up my home, especially my living room which has been feeling sparse on the accessories front since taking down all of my holiday decorations. Luckily my friends at Target were right on time with an offer to to help me update my living room! I believe that making simple changes such as adding in new accessories is the easiest way to change the feel of your space so I decided to restyle my coffee table and incorporate a few new pieces into the mix to make my living room feel new and fresh.

First up – I started out with some gorgeous flowers to add color and life to the room.  I found these “free spirit”roses at the flower market and I just love the bright coral color and the curly tips which look so beautiful when fully bloomed.

Next, I hit up Target and headed straight for the Nate Berkus aisle! I’m a big fan of Nate’s line for Target which is always a go-to for stylish and affordable accessories. I found this pretty textured glass vase which was the perfect size for my roses!

One of my designer styling tricks of the trade is to always use a tray when styling a coffee table – it’s great for corralling clutter and also helps make for an artful tablescape display. I placed the vase inside the tray with a stack of books and topped them with a Nate Berkus ceramic box which has a lovely silver ombre edge detail and faux bois texture. Now my tiny Apple TV remote has a beautiful new home and will hopefully never get lost again!

I love opposite juxtapositions so for added interest I incorporated a white Nate Berkus decorative pyramid to add a bit of edginess next to the soft, feminine roses.

Finally – a must-have during these cold winter months is a cozy throw blanket and this coral throw from Target’s Threshold collection coordinated perfectly with the colors in my living room. It’s also a lovely contrast with the bouquet of purple hyacinths that I picked up during my flower market run. Now my living room feels fresh and bright again and I can’t wait to curl up in my new blanket with popcorn and a glass of red wine, Olivia Pope style, to watch Netflix this weekend! And hopefully this inspires you to make some simple updates to your own home! You definitely don’t have to completely overhaul your decor or spend a ton of money to reinvigorate a room.
