It’s no secret that I love decorating with color, but I realize the idea of bold color choices is not one that everyone can embrace. I also don’t subscribe to the belief that beige is always boring. I actually think a room full of neutrals can be just as interesting as any colorful space with the right layers, textures and accents. This series of photos, courtesy of our friends at The Everygirl proves just that! The Everygirl recently collaborated with Interior Define to design two stylish and affordable sofas and I’m especially loving the Rose sofa. It’s a classic, English roll arm style sofa that is timeless and elegant in a basic beige linen blend fabric. I just love how they’ve styled it in these pictures. Below are 5 takeaway lessons on creating a chic and layered neutral room…
1. Introduce pattern. The throw pillows here feature an mix of patterns in various scales which add a ton of personality and makes a bold statement on this beige sofa.
2. Incorporate texture. In this case, a natural fiber rug adds textural interest as does the existing brick wall backdrop so the sofa really pops out against these rich textures.
3. Add warm metals. Gold and brass accents help bring warmth to this neutral space.
4. A living element is a must. Natural elements such as a plant or fresh cut flowers are an easy way to bring an instant pop of color and life into a room.
5. Add statement art. Large scale artwork is another great way to add personality to a neutral room. And it doesn’t have to be loud or colorful to make a statement. In this case a simple photograph with a lot of negative space creates a strong focal point.

Great times. Love the negative space in the photo.
The plant pot and the sofa need to get in my apartment. ASAP!
Although I am someone who gravitates towards vibrant colors and lots of pattern, I also love a chic neutral space. Since am not a fan of your typical ‘neutral sofa’, my ideal subdued setting would consist of pure white belgian linen slipcovered furniture and drapes with solid cream-colored alpaca throw blankets and cream alpaca toss pillows, dark lacquered walls, some texture from a braided jute rug and soft light from brass swing arm sconces. Great post, thanks and Happy Halloween!
The room looks neutral because you stay within the same color scheme even if stripes and dots are used.
This sounds like an odd question but could you please let me know the font you used to make the notes on the picture?
Thanks
I love that you mentioned the use of patterns. In my opinion, that can really mean the difference between “interesting” and “boring” when it comes to neutral color palettes.
I love everything about this space! I tend to lean towards girlier pieces (never met a sequin pillow I didn’t love!), but I like that this has both feminine and masculine elements
I love this brick wall! It looks absolutely phenomenal. Also I have seen this pebbles wall in one of restaurants in Warsaw in Poland.
I think there is nothing more extraordinary than natural stone or old brick an wall.
Adding that natural rug made from either wool or natural fibre adds a touch of luxury and comfort. In our opinion the larger the rug the better the impact. Especially with patterned rugs, exploding the pattern in larger sizes adds that wow factor.
These are great tips! I love how this space looks. Very modern, sophisticated, and cozy. Thanks for sharing.

Nicole, we are a big fan of colors too, but indeed, even if one wants to stick to a neutral color, the tips are really good for stepping out of the “grey zone”.
Texture is really important in this case and since you love design so much, I would like to share with you some more inspiration: http://www.sukhirugs.com

A very creative ideas!Thank you for the tips. Contrasting textures and materials in similar tones are a sure winner.
