Todd Selby’s new book, “The Selby Is In Your Place” features artist Phillip Smiley and fashion designer wife Abigail Smiley Smith on the cover in the yard of their London home.
When photographer Todd Selby launched his self-titled blog in 2008, his concept was to simply capture photos of his stylish friends in their homes and post them on his site. Little did he know that The Selby would quickly become a hit and he soon started receiving requests from people across the globe who wanted their homes featured on his blog. The appeal of The Selby lies in the fact that it taps into our natural voyeuristic curiosity, providing an insiders look into the homes of creative luminaries
in the fashion art and design worlds. Vibrant, intriguing, deeply personal and often quirky, Selby’s photographs are a lesson in how one’s personal style is reflected through their homes. In the nearly 2 years since launching his blog, Todd Selby is now a widely renowned interiors, fashion and portrait photographer who regularly contributes to publications like British Vogue, French Vogue and The New York Times’ T Magazine. He has also shot campaigns for brands like Nike, Cole Haan and Habitat. Last week he came out with his first book titled The Selby is In Your Place which brings his blog to life in print and features 30 profiles of fashionable people in their homes, many of them never seen before. The Selby Is In Your Place covers locations in New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Tokyo, Sydney and London and his subjects include Simon Doonan and Jonathan Adler, Karl Lagerfeld, Andre Walker and Olivier Zahm among others. I happen to be a huge fan of The Selby so in honor of his new book, here’s a roundup of my favorite shots from the uber popular blog.
